This book addresses three main issues.
Part 1: presents the currently prevalent Salafi teaching of Islam.
It explains the concept of Jihad, the fountainhead of Islamic terrorism.
It clarifies multiple dimensions of violence in Salafi Islamic teachings.
It also explain how the West indirectly feeds the spread of terrorism with weak
responses to terror actions. “What the West considers civililzed and tolerant,
many Muslims read as signs of weakness.”
Part 2: presents key elements of Dr. Hamid's attempt to reform Islam, a
reformation he began in Egypt more than 20 years ago.
Part 3: is what Dr. Hamid describes as “an honest word about
Israel.”
Many Muslims, among others, blame Israel for violence in the Middle East. Dr. Hamid
writes what he feels it is his moral obligation to admit: Israel is in no way a
cause of Islamic terrorism. It is a victim, not a cause. Nor are poverty, lack
of education, President Bush, or the war in Iraq the causes of Islamic terror.
The real cause is Salafi Islamic religious teachings that encourage violence and
Jihad, the imperative that Islam must dominate the world.
Therefore, Dr. Hamid writes, “Peace will never happen in the Middle East until
the Arabs stop their incitement and hatred against the Jews. Just asking Israel
to give more concessions or give more land to the Arabs will never solve the
problem. It is us, the Arabs/Muslims, who need to change our hearts toward
non-Muslims and start a new era of love. It is us, the Arabs/Muslims, who need
a reformation of our religion to bring us in harmony with human civilization.”
